The guide is written for families and the public to know their rights and responsibilities before entering into contracts with organizations that are licensed under the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002.
No internments shall take place during the winter season (November 15th – April 15th) unless specifically authorized by the Cemetery Operator.
Arrangements for Burial
|
The Municipality works in co-operation with all local funeral homes. Arrangements are made by the Funeral Director, who will notify Municipality of West Perth staff of the date and time of funeral.
The following is required for an interment to take place
- Proof of ownership of the Certificate of Interment Rights
- Burial Permit or Certificate of Cremation
Should the Internment Rights Holder(s) be deceased, authorization must be provided in writing by the person authorized to act on behalf of the Interment Rights Holder(s) in keeping with the Succession Law Reform Act (i.e. Personal Representative/Estate Trustee, Executor, or next of kin).

Cemetery By-law and Fees

All fees must be paid to the Cemetery Operator prior to interment. Payments can be made by cash, cheque, debit or credit card.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I pre-arrange my cemetery needs?
By pre-arranging your burial, your wishes are made clear. Advance planning is the best way to avoid heavier financial burdens in the future, and decisions are made apart from the emotions and stress of a death. We will assist you and respect your preferences.
When I buy a plot, do I own the land?
You own the right to determine who may be buried on the plot. These rights are called interment or burial rights. The land remains the property and responsibility of the Cemetery and/or Municipality.
Can I sell my plot to someone else?
You may sell the plot to someone else, however there are specific conditions and certain steps required to ensure the transfer of ownership is registered in the Cemetery and Municipal records. Please contact us the Deputy Clerk at (519) 348-8429 x 223 for more details, or review Section E of our Cemetery By-law.
Lot Capacity
One (1) casket and up to four (4) urns is considered a full plot as described in Section F of our Cemetery By-law.
Winter Interments
Winter burials take place weather permitting or on a medical order. Burials occur between April 15th and November 15th (inclusive) each year.
Can we plant a tree, bush, or flowers on our family grave?
All details pertaining to what you can adorn gravesite with is available in Section H of our Cemetery By-law.
