2026 Waste and Recycling Calendar, Recyclable Materials and Guide

What is and is not recyclable in West Perth?

The average recycling contamination rate is around 25% (meaning 1 out of 4 items put in the recycling are non-recyclable). In West Perth, the contamination rate is around 40%, well above the average rate. Adding non-recyclable items to the recycling makes it harder for the recycling company to sort the items, taking more time, and money!

Avoid "Wish-cycling" (meaning, putting something in the recycling bin you aren't 100% sure is recyclable. The Bluewater Recycling Association has a material guide to help you identify which items are recyclable in our area.  Refer to their material guide below to learn more.

Landfill Commercial Businesses & Contractor Forms

Commercial Recycling

Recycling in Ontario is changing due to updates to the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act. Under the new regulations, Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs) are now responsible for residential recycling only, while recycling collected from Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) properties must be collected and processed separately.

As part of this transition, recycling bins at ICI properties will be updated with red lids. These bins are designated for commercial-source recyclables only.

If you are unsure of your collection day or have questions about your recycling service, please contact Bonnie at 519-228-6678 ext. 221 or bonnie@bra.org.

UPCOMING CHANGES- JANUARY 2027

Beginning January 2027, an annual ICI recycling fee of $160 per bin will be applied to eligible properties to help cover collection, transportation, processing, and program administration costs.

Businesses can adjust their recycling service at any time. Bins may be removed entirely or reduced in number to better match your needs. If your property regularly sets out four or more full recycling bins per collection, a recycling dumpster may be a more cost-effective option. For assistance, contact MARS Environmental at 519-228-6678 ext. 221, bins@marsenvironmental.ca, or visit www.marsenvironmental.ca
