Leaf collection - October 15th to November 15th

A bagged leaf collection service is provided to Mitchell Ward residents in the fall of each year. Please follow the guidelines below to make sure your leaves are collected:

• Leaf collection takes place from mid-October - mid-November.
• Leaves must be in a paper bag.
• Only leaf material is acceptable in bags, no other yard waste or material is accepted.  
• Bags must not exceed 25 kgs (50 lbs) to ensure the safety of staff.
• Ensure leaf bags are placed on boulevard, clear of any obstructions (examples: trees or parked vehicles). Staff will not go on private property or resident’s property to get bags. 

Leaf Disposal Alternatives

If you do not wish to use West Perth's bagged leaf collection service or you live in an area that the service is not provided, other disposal options are:

• Deliver leaves and yard waste in paper yard-waste bags to the West Perth Landfill for composting at no charge.
• Plastic Bags containing yard waste/leaves can be emptied into the yard waste bin by the customer, and the plastic bag put in the adjacent garbage bin. If the yard waste/leaves are in paper bags, the bag and the contents can be placed in the yard waste bin without emptying the bags.
• Alternatively, mulch leaves on your property to use in gardens, flowerbeds, or leave mulched leaves on your yard to create healthier growing conditions for your lawn.
• Compost leaves in your backyard composter.

Common Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Items:

• Batteries (household, rechargeable, automotive)
• Energy efficient bulbs, fluorescent tubes/bulbs
• Antifreeze and brake fluid
• Hair dye, nail polish, nail polish remover
• Household cleaners, such as bleach, oven cleaners, drain cleaners
• Paints, varnish, solvents, caulking, glue
• Pharmaceuticals
• Propane tanks/cylinders
• Thermostats containing mercury
• Used motor oil and filters

Do not put hazardous materials in the garbage, down a drain or on the ground. 

The Municipality of West Perth offers a Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste (MHSW) Depot, conveniently located at the landfill site, where residents can dispose of their household hazardous materials safely and efficiently, free of charge.

Have you recently replaced a computer, phone or television? Drop-off your unwanted or obsolete electronic devices to be fully recycled at the landfill! The Municipality of West Perth is proud to offer safe, responsible disposal free of charge! 

Accepted electronic devices:

IT Data Center and Networking Equipment:

• Hubs, switches, routers, modems, access points, servers and printed circuit boards, programmable logic controllers, relays, controllers, spectro-tracers, etc.

IT/AV End-Point Devices:

• Desktop computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, printers, copiers, scanners, MFPS, keyboards, mice, cables, peripherals, circuit boards, memory, mother boards, monitors, TVs, cable box, satelite box

Data and Digital Media Storage:

• Hard drives, SSDs and USB drives

Agricultural bale wrap is no longer accepted at the West Perth Landfill for recycling. Bale wrap can be recycled through Switch Energy Corp who will come to your location to pick up the material. 

Tipping Fees will apply at the West Perth Landfill.

Sign-up for a Commercial Businesses/Contractor Landfill Account:

Commercial business and contractor landfill accounts are only for those taking waste to the landfill on behalf of the Municipality of West Perth ratepayer.

Go paperless! Sign up and you will receive a PDF version of your water and sewer bill delivered directly to your email account.

You will no longer receive a paper copy of your bill when you sign up for E-Send, future bills will be delivered to the email address you provided. Customers may sign up for more than one utility account for e-bills. A separate enrollment form is required for each utility account.

Please note:

• It is the customer's responsibility to complete a new enrollment form if there is a change to the email address where the utility bill is being sent and also to notify the Utilities Clerk if a bill has not been received.
• Customers using the utility e-billing service are subject to standard late fees if applicable.
• Please add finance@westperth.com to your email's safe list/contact list to ensure e-bills are sent directly to your inbox.
