Council Updates – September 21st

Ontario Student Nutrition Program

Council heard from the Ontario Student Nutrition Program about its work providing nutritious food to students across Huron and Perth. The delegation highlighted local programs, funding needs and opportunities for community partnerships.

Road Safety

Residents of St. Columb asked Council to support reducing the speed limit along Highway 8 through the community. Council directed staff to send correspondence about these road safety concerns to the Ministry of Transportation and other municipal and provincial partners.

Council also discussed the potential for additional rumble strips on West Perth roads that intersect with county roads and highways. Further road safety information will be presented at an upcoming Council meeting.

Planning Applications

Council approved the removal of a holding provision for Block 25 in Mitchell, allowing development to proceed. Council also supported a surplus farmhouse severance application, subject to conditions.

Financial & Procurement Updates

Council received updates on the Municipality’s upcoming CIBC mortgage renewal and changes to procurement practices related to the Buy Ontario Directive.

Joint Compliance Audit Committee

Council approved the terms of reference and appointments for the Joint Compliance Audit Committee for the 2026–2030 Council term.
