Accoustic Sewer Screening

Sewer Screening Coming to Mitchell

The Municipality of West Perth has retained Rapid Assessment Technology Services Inc. (RATS) to complete acoustic screening of sanitary sewer pipes in your neighbourhood.

When?

Friday, October 9 to Thursday, October 15, 2026

Where?

Work will take place on various streets in the area between Frances Street and Arthur Street, south to Line 34/Highway 8 and east to Highway 23/Road 164, including some streets on the east side of Highway 23/Frances Street.

What is sewer screening?

Contractors will place two small devices on open manholes for approximately 5 minutes. The devices use sound to help determine whether a sewer pipe is clear or may need further maintenance.

No digging, flushing or entry into homes or businesses is required.

Why are we doing this?

Sewer screening helps the Municipality:

  • Identify pipes that may be blocked or partially blocked
  • Determine where cleaning or CCTV inspection may be needed
  • Help prevent sewer backups and overflows
  • Avoid unnecessary sewer cleaning and traffic disruptions

What will residents notice?

You may see contractors working around manholes and hear a series of tones for a few minutes while testing takes place.

The equipment only collects information about the sewer pipes. No personal or household information is collected.

Do I need to do anything?

No. Residents and businesses do not need to be home or take any action. You may not even notice that the screening has taken place.
