Keterson Park & Tim Hortons Pavilion

Keterson Park, nestled in the heart of Mitchell, has been a cherished spot for recreation and relaxation for more than a hundred years. Initially, it boasted a bustling harness racing track and served as the venue for a variety of entertainment spectacles, from carnival extravaganzas to military showcases and circus performances. Notably, it was also the proud host of the renowned Mitchell Fall Fair.

Through the decades, the park has evolved into the vibrant recreation center it is today. Its transformation includes the establishment of four ball diamonds, a spacious area dedicated to Fall Fair festivities, and cozy grassy patches perfect for children's soccer matches. This park's rich history continues to shape its present, with thrilling tournaments and events drawing crowds year after year.

In June 2023, Mark Moore and Megan Adair of Mitchell Tim Hortons committed to the naming rights of the pavilion, which will come in part from the annual Smile Cookie Campaign. The pavilion will now be known as "Tim Hortons Pavilion in Keterson Park".

Tim Hortons Pavilion

The Tim Hortons Pavilion at Keterson Park stands as a testament to the Municipality of West Perth's commitment to fostering top-tier recreation within our community. This project, totaling $1.8 million in costs, received a substantial boost with $812,500 secured through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program Grant, generously provided by the Government of Canada.

To bridge the remaining financial gap, the Municipality is actively contributing funds while seeking to raise $400,000 through donations, sponsorships, and naming rights. This collaborative effort ensures the realization of a premier recreational facility for the benefit of all residents and visitors alike.

About the Pavilion & Project

The previous Keterson Park Pavilion was a project proposed by the Mitchell Kinsmen in 1993, and approved for construction in the amount of $30,000.00. The building was erected in 1994 and used material salvaged from the previous pavilion, and was largely built by volunteers and the Kinsmen themselves. This pavilion served the community well, but sadly was showing it's age, and no longer met current Health and Safety Standards.

The Municipality of West Perth was awarded a grant from Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) to support improvements to Keterson Park in Mitchell. The Municipality was made aware of the approval for the grant from ICIP on July 7, 2021. View the full media release on the grant approval here. View the Government of Ontario's News Release here.

The project involves the construction of a new multi-use pavilion and an accessible path for Keterson Park in Mitchell.  These improvements were identified through the Keterson Park Master Plan which was prepared with input from user groups and adopted by West Perth Council in June of 2019.  The full Keterson Park Master Plan can be accessed here.

A new multi-use pavilion will replace the existing pavilion and barns. The design is a 130ft by 66ft pavilion with a covered viewing area and sight lines to the playground as well as all four existing ball diamonds. The new pavilion will include a kitchen and bar area, washroom facilities, basketball nets, and storage space, removable walls and a wash pad and drainage capabilities for use during the annual fall fair and other events. The new pavilion will be used for a variety of drop-in recreational activities, tournaments and miscellaneous special events.

Sponsorship Opportunities

Although the Municipality received a generous grant from ICIP to construct the new pavilion, the project is relying on community support in the forms of donations, naming rights, and sponsorships to provide the world-class infrastructure for the community.
