The Municipality of West Perth contracts Bluewater Recycling Association (BRA) to provide curbside garbage and recycling collection. Residents are encouraged to visit the Bluewater Recycling Association website to find up-to-date information regarding delays and cancellations. The company website also provides details on items that are acceptable for collection.

Mitchell Ward: Curbside collection occurs weekly on Mondays. Logan, Fullarton, Hibbert Wards: Collection takes place bi-weekly on Thursdays. Your garbage and recycling should be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day to help avoid missed collections. |

A user pay program is in effect and mandatory for all property owners. The most benefits are gained when a little effort is put forth. Those who produce the least waste pay the least! What is and is not recyclable in West Perth? | ||||||||||||||||||||
The average recycling contamination rate is around 25% (meaning 1 out of 4 items put in the recycling are non-recyclable). In West Perth, the contamination rate is around 40%, well above the average rate. Adding non-recyclable items to the recycling makes it harder for the recycling company to sort the items, taking more time, and money! Avoid "Wish-cycling" (meaning, putting something in the recycling bin you aren't 100% sure is recyclable. Landfill | ||||||||||||||||||||
The Municipality of West Perth operates an all-in-one landfill and depot for the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) with competitive fees. The landfill accepts certain electronics, hazardous materials, leaf and yard waste for free. Please note, the landfill does not accept tires or any material containing asbestos. The West Perth Landfill is for the use of West Perth Residents only as per the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change regulations. Be prepared to present proof of residence. Contractor Authorization PolicyThe Mitchell Domestic Landfill is only for the disposal of waste generated within the Municipality of West Perth. The Contractor Authorization Policy establishes guidelines for contractors whose business address is located outside of West Perth municipal boundaries. Common Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Items:
Do not put hazardous materials in the garbage, down a drain or on the ground. The Municipality of West Perth offers a Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste (MHSW) Depot, conveniently located at the landfill site, where residents can dispose of their household hazardous materials safely and efficiently, free of charge. Leaf collectioin will begin October 15, 2024 A bagged leaf collection service is provided to Mitchell Ward residents in the fall of each year. Please follow the guidelines below to make sure your leaves are collected:

Agricultural Bale Wrap | ||||||||||||||||||||
Agricultural bale wrap is no longer accepted at the West Perth Landfill for recycling. Bale wrap can be recycled through Switch Energy Corp. who will come to your location to pick up the material. Tipping Fees will apply at the West Perth Landfill. |
