The Municipality of West Perth is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 517.9 km of road and 44 km of sidewalks. The Operation Department's overall purpose is to provide safe passage for all modes of transportation including but not limited to motorized vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
Bridges and Culverts |
West Perth has 117 structures most of which were constructed and built in the late 1960s and early 1970s. A structure is a bridge or culvert with a span of more than 3 metres. The Municipality tries to rehabilitate, repair or reconstruct 3 to 4 structures per year. To find out more about current Municipal projects please see the Projects and Initiatives page. |
Construction and Roadwork |
Throughout the year there are many construction and roadwork projects underway across the Municipality. Driveway permits |
If you plan to widen your driveway you will need to apply for a driveway permit application. There are rules such as maximum width and number of driveways that apply to each property. To find out what may apply to your property please contact the Building Department. |
Half load season and restrictions |
Half load season is from March 1 until April 30 annually following the guidelines under the Highway Traffic Act. Restrictions apply to all Municipal and County Roads with the exception of those in an urban setting. No commercial vehicle or trailer may be operated on any posted roads within the Municipality where the weight per axle exceeds 5 tonnes. |

Snow Removal - FAQ'sLevels of ServiceThe Municipality of West Perth follows the provincially prescribed standards for winter maintenance (Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways, O. Reg. 239/02) to clear roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots in the event of a snowfall. Plowing crews are dispatched once there is approximately 8 cm of snow that has fallen. Which streets, sidewalks, and parking lots get plowed first is decided on a pre-determined level of priority. Winter remindersOn-street Parking Sidewalks Owners or occupants of buildings fronting Ontario Street from Thames River to St. David Street, St. George Street from Montreal Street to Quebec Street and St. Andrew Street from Quebec Street to Montreal Street in the Ward of Mitchell are required to clear away and remove snow and ice from the sidewalks, alongside or at the rear of such buildings and from all fire escapes and other means of egress within a twenty-four (24) hour period of a snow event as per Removal of Snow By-law. |
