Congratulations on your upcoming nuptuals! To get married in Ontario, you must complete a marriage licence application. You must make an appointment with the Clerks Department to receive a marriage licence. Appointments can be made using the "Book Appointment & Submit Application" button below. Appointments are available Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Appointments require three business day notice and are available Monday to Friday.
Your marriage licence is valid for 90 days from the day it is issued.

What type of identification do I need to apply? |
You will need to bring with you 2 original pieces of government-issued identification for each person getting married. One piece of identification must include a photo.

Ontario Health Cards and Social Insurance Number (SIN) cards are not acceptable forms of identification. |
How much does a marriage licence cost? |
A marriage licence costs $120.00 and is payable by e-Transfer, cash or debit. If paying by e-Transfer:

What if a minor wants to apply for a marriage licence? |
You need to be at least 16 years old to get married in Ontario.
If you are under 18 years old you will need written consent from both your parents or legal guardians. |
What if I've previously been married? |
Divorced in CanadaApplicants must provide an original or court-certified copy of the Final Decree, Final Judgment, or a Certificate of Divorce. Certified copies can be obtained from the court that granted the divorce. Photocopies will not be accepted. Out-of-Country DivorcesApplicants who have been divorced outside of Canada must provide documentation to the Province of Ontario prior to being issued an Ontario marriage licence. |
I'm married, now what? |
After the ceremony, the person who performed your wedding provides you with a record of solemnization as a keepsake. This is not a marriage certificate.
You may apply for a marriage certificate from Service Ontario 6 to 8 weeks after your marriage ceremony. Couples can complete a Marriage Certificate Application and mail it directly to the Registrar General's office or request the Marriage Certificate online at Service Ontario. |
