When is a building permit required for a tent?

• If the tent is on public property
• If the area of the tent is greater than 60 meters squared (645 square feet).
• Tents greater than 225 meters squared (2,421 feet square) must have the tent framing and anchorage system designed, and the installation inspected, by a professional engineer
• All tent fabric must comply with CAN/ULC-S109 or NFPA 701 flammability standards.

*If the event is on public property a Fire Plan approved by the West Perth Fire Department is also required.

Municipality of West Perth's Building Department uses Cloudpermit - an online system to apply for and track building permits. This initiative aims to streamline the permit process and reduce our carbon footprint. Charitable gaming lottery licences are issued by the AGCO and by municipalities in Ontario. The licensing authority you go to depends on where the event will be located, the expected prize amount, and the type of lottery. 

Lottery Applications:

Licensees wishing to use proceeds for any purpose not requested on their original application must request a licence amendment and receive approval before using the proceeds for those purposes.

Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario

Refreshment Vehicle Licence

To operate a refreshment vehicle in West Perth you must have a licence. Refreshment vehicles include food trucks, ice-cream carts, hotdog carts and food trailers. They may be mobile or stay in one spot. Refreshment vehicles must follow the Municipality of West Perth Refreshment Vehicle By-law. 

This is an Application for a one-time event or an annual licence that is valid until December 31. Your application must include: 

• $50 One-Time Event Fee or $250.00 Annual Fee 
• a picture of the refreshment vehicle 
• a copy of the motor vehicle registration
• a copy of a valid safety standards certificate 
• a copy of the Mobile Food Service Equipment Annual Inspection Certificate from the Technical Standards and Safety Equipment (TSSA)
• proof of insurance 
• a Food Premises Inspection Report from a local board of health Mobile Food Service Equipment Self-Inspection Checklist and, an inspection by the West Perth Fire Department. Please contact the Fire Prevention Officer FPO@pertheast.ca to arrange an inspection
• other documents as necessary 

Special Events 

To operate at special events you must receive written permission from special event organizers to sell within their event.

Sidewalk Patio Permit

Application 

• A completed application 
• A copy of the side plan digital (preferred) or hard copy that includes 6 m (19.7 ft) on either side of the storefront with streetlights, street furniture, poles, trees, and any other physical, utility or drainage feature on the street/sidewalk
• A copy of your insurance showing a minimum $5 Million Comprehensive General Liability with the Municipality added as Additional Insured. If you are serving liquor please also show evidence of $5 Million Host Liability insurance 

Applications will be checked for compliance with the Sign By-law and applicants will be advised if any modifications are required to plans in order for the project to comply. A sign permit will be issued when all necessary approvals have been obtained and all fees have been paid.

Application 

• a completed application
• the applicable application fees
• a complete set of drawings and specifications detailing the construction of the sign and support structure. Where applicable, this will include drawings stamped by a registered professional engineer.
• a plan indicating the lot dimensions, frontage and setback requirements and proposed location of the sign on-site,
• all written approvals (e.g., County of Perth, Ministry of Transportation), as required. (i.e., signs within 400m and visible to a Provincial highway require a ministry permit.

A permit from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario is required any time alcohol is offered for sale or served anywhere other than in a licensed establishment or private place. In order to receive a Special Occasion Permit (SOP) for liquor sales from the AGCO for a public event held in West Perth, you must receive a letter of "municipal significance."  

A Public Event SOP can be issued: 

• To a charitable organization under the Income Tax Act (Canada);
• To Not-for-Profit organizations/associations organized to promote charitable, educational, religious or community objects;
• For an event of provincial, national or international significance; or
• For an event of “municipal significance” where a Municipal Council has passed a resolution, or a letter has been issued from the municipal clerk or designated authority which designates the event to be of municipal significance.

SOP Letter of Municipal Significance Requirements

• Proof of insurance in the amount of $5,000,000.00 
• Include the Municipality as an additional insured party and indemnify the Municipality of all and any associated risks resulting from the public event

Applying for a Marriage Licence:

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptuals! To get married in Ontario, you must complete a marriage licence application. You must make an appointment with the Clerks Department to receive a marriage licence. 

Appointments can be made using the "Book Appointment & Submit Application" button below. Appointments are available Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 and require three business day notice for documents to be reviewed. 

Your marriage licence is valid for 90 days (3 months) from the day it is issued.

At this time, the Municipality does not perform civil marriages.
