Keterson Park, in the heart of the Town of Mitchell, has been a place of recreation and leisure for over a century. This park was once home to a harness racing track, a park which would host carnival shows, military tatoos, and circus acts, and of course, the infamous Mitchell Fall Fair. Over the years, the park has transitioned into the recreation hub it is today, including four ball diamonds, a large area for Fall Fair activities, and small grassed areas used for children's soccer. The legacy of this park lives on today, with exciting tournaments and events happening year over year.
In June 2023, Mark Moore and Megan Adair of Mitchell Tim Hortons committed to the naming rights of the pavilion, which will come in part from the annual Smile Cookie Campaign. The pavilion will now be known as "Tim Hortons Pavilion in Keterson Park".
The Tim Horton's Pavilion in Keterson Park is an investment the Municipality of West Perth is making in the longevity of high-quality recreation in our community. The cost of this project is $1.8 million, with $812,500 awarded from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program Grant (Government of Canada). The Municipality is investing funds in the project, with the remaining $400,000 hoping to be raised by donations, sponsorships, and naming rights.

Donations & Sponsorship Opportunities |
Although the Municipality received a generous grant from ICIP to construct the new pavilion, the project is relying on community support in the forms of donations, naming rights, and sponsorships to provide the world-class infrastructure for the community. The Keterson Park Pavilion Sponsorship and Advertising Guide (below) outlines all the opportunities for the community to get involved in the project. Sponsoring this project has many benefits, including high-visibility recognition for your person or company, increasing your company morale while benefiting our community, and supporting local teams and those visiting by providing world-class infrastructure to use and enjoy. The previous Keterson Park Pavilion was a project proposed by the Mitchell Kinsmen in 1993, and approved for construction in the amount of $30,000.00. The building was erected in 1994 and used material salvaged from the previous pavilion, and was largely built by volunteers and the Kinsmen themselves. This pavilion served the community well, but sadly was showing it's age, and no longer met current Health and Safety Standards.
The Municipality of West Perth was awarded a grant from Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) to support improvements to Keterson Park in Mitchell. The Municipality was made aware of the approval for the grant from ICIP on July 7, 2021. View the full media release on the grant approval here. View the Government of Ontario's News Release here.
The project involves the construction of a new multi-use pavilion and an accessible path for Keterson Park in Mitchell. These improvements were identified through the Keterson Park Master Plan which was prepared with input from user groups and adopted by West Perth Council in June of 2019. The full Keterson Park Master Plan can be accessed here.
A new multi-use pavilion will replace the existing pavilion and barns. The design is a 130ft by 66ft pavilion with a covered viewing area and sight lines to the playground as well as all four existing ball diamonds. The new pavilion will include a kitchen and bar area, washroom facilities, basketball nets, and storage space, removable walls and a wash pad and drainage capabilities for use during the annual fall fair and other events. The new pavilion will be used for a variety of drop-in recreational activities, tournaments and miscellaneous special events.
A new multi-use accessible stone dust path will be constructed around the ball diamonds and out to the parking lot.
The project tender was awarded to DOMM Construction in Fall 2022. The old pavilion was torn down October 2022, and rebuilding began November 2022. Anticipated completion of May 2023.
