ANIMAL ZOO

LIONS PARK ANIMAL ZOO

Our animal zoo is housed in the middle of Lions Park.  Featuring Fallow deer, a variety of birds and other animals.  The animals' appetites are always good, so bring along some bread and vegetables as they enjoy being hand fed.  However, be careful near our donkey as he has been known to enthusiastically chew on the hand as well as the oats!

CONSERVATION

DUCKS UNLIMITED CANADA - WETLANDS PROJECT

For over 60 years, Ducks Unlimited Canada (DU) has been conserving wetlands to provide habitat for wildlife and to improve the quality and quantity of our water resources.

One of the more than 14 000 DU projects in Ontario, the Mitchell wetland restoration project involves the conversion of three abandoned sewage lagoons into productive wetland habitats.  The restored sewage lagoons, when brought up to full management capability, will provide enhanced habitat for resident muskrats, mink, frogs, water snakes, salamanders, turtles, and small fish.  Improved habitats will also be available for seasonal users including marsh wrens, red-winged blackbirds, rails, egrets, herons, bitterns, gallinules, and coots.  Mallards and blue-winged teal will be the primary breeding waterfowl species using the new habitat, but wood ducks, green-winged teal, gadwall, wigeon, black ducks, ringnecks, pintails, shovellers, reheads, and buffleheads will use the lagoon during migration stopovers.  During times of low water levels required for management, the habitat will be optimal for shorebirds.  For more information contact www.ducks.ca.
