Finance Department

The Finance Department is responsible for the sound management of the municipality’s financial operations and ensures compliance with Provincial and Federal Policy decisions and statutes.

The financial well-being of the Municipality is provided through effective and reliable financial policies, advice, services and information.

Property Tax


The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for assessing and classifying more than five million properties in Ontario. Every four years, they conduct a province-wide Assessment Update. This year, every Municipality of West Perth property owner will receive a Property Assessment Notice from MPAC. The Notice shows the updated assessment value of their property as of January 1, 2016 as well as their classification such as residential, commercial or farm.

The assessment will be used for the 2017-2020 property taxation years and the properties with an increase in assessment value will be phased in over these four years. Decreases will be introduced immediately in  the 2017 tax year. Residential property Notices were mailed in May 2016. Notices for all other properties including farm, commercial and multi-residential, will be mailed in October 2016.

Property owners are encouraged to visit which is MPAC’s secure, online, easy-to-use website that allows property owners to learn more about how their property was assessed, view the information MPAC has on file, as well as compare their property to others in their neighbourhood. Look for your login information on your Property Assessment Notice.

Included in the Notice is the Request for Reconsideration (RFR) deadline. Owners will have 120 days from their issue date to file. More information on how to file an RFR is available on

Due Dates

Interim tax notices are due the last banking day of February and May.  The final tax notices are due the last banking day of August and November.  Supplementary tax notices state the due date on the statement.

Penalty and Interest

A penalty of 1.25% is added on the first day of default of each installment as well as the first day of each month thereafter.  Interest is added to prior year(s) tax arrears on the first day of the month calculated at 1.25% of the previous month’s ending balance.  To avoid penalty and interest charges, payment must be received at the Municipal Office by the due date.

Change of Ownership / Mailing Address
Ownership changes are received from MPAC.  However, the Municipality may not receive the information until a number of months have passed.  Many solicitors forward change of ownership information to assist their clients, and it is appreciated by the Municipality.

  1. In person – Municipal Office at 169 St David St., Mitchell
    Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    A drop box is located next to the Clerk’s Department door marked “Parking Tickets/ Municipal Payments”  for after-hours use.
  2. By mail – cheque only.  Do not mail cash. Post dated cheques are accepted

  3. By internet banking  -Contact your financial institution for more details.
  4. At your bank – payment can be made at any bank in West Perth.  A payment stub with the property roll number is required.
  5. Pre-Authorized Payment Plan – Click HERE to download an application form to enroll. Application forms are also available at the Municipal Office or can be mailed upon request.   A “voided’ cheque is also required. Payments can be made Quarterly or Monthly.
