Excellent educational facilities at all levels. Mitchell has two schools, Upper Thames Elementary, and Mitchell District High School.
Upper Thames Elementary School is a school for J.K. to Grade 8 students and has many activites and fundraisers. This school takes children from all four wards of the municipality.
Mitchell District High School, otherwise known as MDHS, is a school from 9-12. It is a school that has many extra-curricular activities, including music, sports and mechanics. The City of London (45 minutes) has the University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College. The City of Kitchener (45 minutes) has the main campus of Conestoga College. The City of Waterloo (45 minutes) has the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University.
Health Services - The West Perth Medical Centre in Mitchell currently houses 3 Doctors, 2 Optometrists, a Physiotherapist, Community Care Access Centre and a Registered Massage Therapist. Another Doctor operates an independent practice in Mitchell. The nearby Stratford General Hospital provides further comfort.
Emergency Services- An Ambulance with trained personnel is stationed in Mitchell 24/7. The West Perth Fire Department, stationed in Mitchell, is a composite Fire Department with one full time Fire Chief and 21 volunteer firefighters, equipped with modern equipment. There are approximately 140 fire hydrants located within Mitchell to ensure an immediate and adequate supply of water in the event of an emergency. The Municipality of West Perth has a policing agreement with the O.P.P for adequate and effective policing services for the Community, incorporating the advice and priorities of the Police Services Board. A detachment station is located in Mitchell.
Sports and Recreation - The residents of the Municipality of West Perth take great pride in their recreation programs and facilities. Hockey, ringette, soccer, figure skating, baseball and softball all play an important part in the competitive and recreational sports scene. West Perth boasts a large park area for its size in Canada. The majority of this scenic green land lies along the beautiful Thames River. There are more than 55 acres of groomed parkland with annuals and perennials. The West Perth Thames River Nature Trail is located along the banks of the North branch of the Thames River. The trail features over 10 km of varied difficulty levels, allowing vegetation and wildlife appreciation opportunities. Most of the trail is in Mitchell, while the West Perth Wetlands, a key component of the Trail system and an ideal spot to view rare migrating and shorebirds, is located just outside the limits of the Town.
