Our animal zoo is housed in the middle of Lions Park. Featuring Fallow deer, a variety of birds and other animals. The animals' appetites are always good, so bring along some bread and vegetables as they enjoy being hand fed. However, be careful near our donkey as he has been known to enthusiastically chew on the hand as well as the oats!

DUCKS UNLIMITED CANADA
WETLANDS PROJECT
For over 60 years, Ducks Unlimited Canada (DU) has been conserving wetlands to provide habitat for wildlife and to improve the quality and quantity of our water resources.
One of the more than 14 000 DU projects in Ontario, the Mitchell wetland restoration project involves the conversion of three abandoned sewage lagoons into productive wetland habitats. The restored sewage lagoons, when brought up to full management capability, will provide enhanced habitat for resident muskrats, mink, frogs, water snakes, salamanders, turtles, and small fish. Improved habitats will also be available for seasonal users including marsh wrens, red-winged blackbirds, rails, egrets, herons, bitterns, gallinules, and coots. Mallards and blue-winged teal will be the primary breeding waterfowl species using the new habitat, but wood ducks, green-winged teal, gadwall, wigeon, black ducks, ringnecks, pintails, shovellers, reheads, and buffleheads will use the lagoon during migration stopovers. During times of low water levels required for management, the habitat will be optimal for shorebirds.

Along the Thames River

Featuring a 3.5km trail along the north branch of the Thames River, which was recently designated a "Heritage River". The trail is ideal for bird watchers, hikers, pleasure walkers, and those who enjoy exploring the out-of-doors.
The trail system provides a picturesque view of the Thames River valley, which is composed of flood plains, woodlands, and wetlands. This provides not only a scenic background but contains a meandering river and a range of different landscapes.
The trail runs along the east side of the Thames River beginning at Francis Street and ending at the future site of Ducks Unlimited Wetlands at the former lagoons.
The Sawyer Preservation Woodlot
The Sawyer Preservation Woodlot is a 28.61 acre wooded tract located in rural southwestern Ontario. The property is managed so as to maintain the richness and diversity of the species within its boundaries and to encourage and promote stewardship of the declining wooded areas of this country. In so doing, the property is a demonstration woodlot and conservation area where the public is welcome.
The woodlot often hosts organized visits ranging from school children to the "Back Road Tours". Abundant flora and fauna attracts a broad spectrum of individuals--conservation specialists--the serious nature lover--those simply wishing solitude. Each visit will provide a new experience. Every day is different--each season presents its own offering. Wildlife abounds. Residents and transients; common and rare. Each encounter provides that tingle of excitement as one takes in what nature has to offer.
